Spiced Pepper Crusted Filet Mignon With Asparagus

Nonstick cooking spray 1 teaspoon minced garlic 1/2 teaspoon olive oil 1/2 teaspoon salt -- divided 12 ounces fresh asparagus -- trimmed 1 tablespoon cracked black pepper 2 teaspoons brandy 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder 4 beef tenderloin steaks -- 4 ounces each and about 1" thick
Preheat the broiler. Spray a broiler pan with nonstick cooking spray. In a large bowl, combine the minced garlic, olive oil, 1/4 teaspoon salt and the asparagus; toss gently to coat. In a small bowl, combine the remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt, black pepper, brandy and garlic powder. Rub the mixture evenly over the steaks. Place the steaks on broiler pan and broil 6 minutes. Turn them and add the asparagus to the pan. Broil 5 minutes more or until desired degree of doneness is reached.
